The true identity of Cloud Applications

In the times that cloud is taking over the world it is getting harder and harder to discover the real cloud applications. What is the difference between them and the others. The complexity can be found in the definition “others”. There are so many different possibilities just take a look at the Cloud Terminology The examples are in my opinion companies with solutions for key cloud technologies. Think about solutions such as Salesforce, Amazon, Microsoft, Tableau, NetSuite, Workday, and Google. These companies are born in the cloud and therefore real cloud applications.

Identity of Cloud Applications

A cloud application (or cloud app) is an application program that functions in the cloud. However with some characteristics of a pure desktop app and some characteristics of a pure Web app. A desktop app resides entirely on a single device at the user’s location. A Web app is stored entirely on a remote server . The deliverance takes place over the Internet through a browser interface.

There is always room for some discussion about cloud applications. What is a real cloud application?  In my opinion are real cloud applications born in the cloud and were never deployable in local environments. If you ask if this is innovation I would say that it still is. Too many software vendors are still leaning on their on premise solutions. Only companies with a “cloud” heart bring the real innovation.

I have to say that there is one exception. It is Oracle. Larry Ellison said in a company update in 2014 that the company added countless numbers of services to its cloud stack. With great confidence to continue to gain market share. The main update was to Oracle’s cloud platform with additional cloud services include a big data cloud, a mobile cloud, an integration cloud and an analytics cloud. Also the bases for cloud applications lays still in databases and if we talk about databases deployed in the cloud. Then we talk about Oracle.
